Giving Thanks: Honoring Birnie Bus Company in Art

The students of Central Riverside Elementary are very fortunate to have reliable bus service to transport them to school every day and for the many field trips we take.   To thank them for outstanding service, we featured one of their company's buses, painted on one of the six painted murals in our school wide mural project.

This month, executives from the Birnie Bus Service corporate office in New York made a special visit to to our school to see the murals depicting our school and community. They were so happy to be acknowledged that they featured a story in their company newsletter expressing their thanks. Students are learning the benefit of extending thanks to those who invest in our school.

Arts Integration: Friendly Fruit Drawing

Arts integration is my strategy for promoting science into the visual arts curriculum. Here you see second graders learning about healthy eating choices in science by taking time to study a variety of fruits then drawing them from observation. This activity promoted lots of "friendly fruit" conversation!
