CRES students learned about french impressionists artists and their love for painting outdoors.   It wasn't hard to convince my second grade students to enjoy the beautiful  November weather as they watercolor painted outside in the Florida sunshine!

Help From a Chinese Friend

Our newest 5th grader, Cyrus, is from China and has very little English proficiency. To communicate with him, his teachers use a translator application on an iPad and our smartphones to communicate.  We honored Cyrus this week by creating art from his culture, Chinese Bamboo Paintings and benefited from his knowledge of Chinese calligraphy to add a signature using symbols from the Chinese alphabet.
Peer teaching performed by students using an iPad and a translator application.

The Arts in EDGE Classes Arts & Leadership

Please, enjoy this short video with highlights of the fun learning activities we offer our students through the EDGE program.

Central Riverside Elementary offers our students a variety of opportunities, one of which is the EDGE Program.  The EDGE Program (short for Enhancing, Developing, and Generating Excellence) is designed to provide opportunities for academically talented students to participate in a process-oriented instructional program. EDGE is an enrichment program that focuses on critical appreciation, creative expression, and social processes through activities that  enhance, develop, and generate academic skills learned in the regular classroom.

We focus on the arts in EDGE classes by offering experiences both in and outside of our school.  We have hosted visiting dancers from LaVilla School of the Arts as well as field trips to live theatre performances at JCA Magic Theatre.  Our students have had expert instruction in the game of golf as well as other team building activities.

Giving Thanks: Honoring Birnie Bus Company in Art

The students of Central Riverside Elementary are very fortunate to have reliable bus service to transport them to school every day and for the many field trips we take.   To thank them for outstanding service, we featured one of their company's buses, painted on one of the six painted murals in our school wide mural project.

This month, executives from the Birnie Bus Service corporate office in New York made a special visit to to our school to see the murals depicting our school and community. They were so happy to be acknowledged that they featured a story in their company newsletter expressing their thanks. Students are learning the benefit of extending thanks to those who invest in our school.
